Letters from your grandmother
Dear Hazel Rose,
I have been writing to you soon after you were born and since your mom made you this page I thought this was a perfect place to put them. Hazel Rose, how I love that name. I remember the day your mom called me to tell me some names that she and your dad had been tossing around. As soon as she said " Hazel Rose', I said oh, it should be Hazel! You see, I am a social worker at a Children's Hospital and that week that your mom called me , I had a new little patient that came to our hospital because she needed a new liver. Her name was Hazel. She was 5 months old and I fell in love with her. I was so happy when the final decision was "Hazel Rose". ( I sometimes want to think my opinion took a little part in the decision making!)
I should probably back up to the night your mom called me on the phone. I could see that it was her calling , so I said "hey Britt", and she screamed out " I'm pregnant!" Your dad was at work so she hadn't even told him yet! I felt honored to be the first to know. You see your mom and her sister Kelsey (your aunt) had a plan to have babies at the same time so that you could grow up with your cousin. Your aunt Kelsey had been pregnant for 2 months so your mom was anxious that she wasn't. You certainly didn't let her forget that you were in her tummy. She didn't feel well allot in the beginning but then you settled in nicely. Then came the day your mom and dad found out that you were a girl! Your mom was so happy because aunt Kelsey was having a girl too! Your dad was a little disappointed because he was hoping for a boy to name after his dad, your grandfather. See, his dad died not long ago and before he died he promised to name a son after him. Don't worry, he got over it.
On September 24th your cousin Hayden James was born. I was there so your mom was calling allot as she was so excited to meet Hayden and couldn't wait for you to meet her. Your mom and dad and you, flew to DC four days later to meet Hayden. Your mom cuddled with Hayden on her belly so you could feel her and you let her know by kicking.
That was the last time I saw you until the day your mom called me at work to give me the very sad news that the doctor could not hear your heart beating. My heart stopped at that moment and then it shattered into little pieces that I am slowly trying to put back together because I have to take care of your mom and your aunt Kelsey, your cousin, dad and all the others that were were waiting to love you.
It was an honor to be there as you entered this world. You are so beautiful! You have your mom's mouth and chin and your dad's nose. You have dark hair like your cousin Hayden. Oh, and long legs! I want to believe they came from me because mom and dad do not have them! Love you, Grams
