The Lake

Dear Hazel,
I am at the lake house I told you about and the leaves are still so beautiful. Usually they are gone by now but the Fall has been warm so the leaves have latest longer this year. You finally came home yesterday. Your dad went by himself to get you because your mom was too sad to go. After some cuddling, I talked your mom into writing to you. I told her how it takes some of the pain away when I write to you. I left her alone in her big comfy chair in her bedroom and went outside to sit and enjoy a beautiful day. I checked on her after awhile and she showed me that she had created a domain ( I call it a website) for you. She even put in some pictures of the beautiful sunsets you send us. She said your dad called and would be home soon. I went outside again and it felt like hours had gone by so I went to see if your dad snuck in the house without me seeing him. Your mom was sad and back in bed and said she thought your dad was home.  When she called him he said he took you on a history tour of Boston and told you stories. Your dad knows a lot of history! Soon after the call he appeared at the bedroom door with you in a little white box. I left to let your mom and dad welcome you home. I was so happy you were home but sad because I know how sad your parents were that you came home in a tiny box. Luckily pop pop was downstairs and let me cry in his arms. When your mom and dad came downstairs, we all went for a walk. Even Franklin, your French Bulldog went. Before we left, your mom called for me to come to her room. She wanted to show me the way they wrapped you in the blanket that they bought a few weeks ago for you to come home in. After the walk your mom and I were exhausted and your mom was thinking she didn't want to go out to dinner as we had planned. She went to her bedroom and we thought we wouldn't see her again but after awhile she came down and handed me the phone because Pam, one of your nurses that helped bring you into this world, called to talk to your mom and me. She made your mom feel better because she too had a little girl that died in her tummy years ago. After the call and with a little pushing from your dd and pop pop, we went to dinner in town. Your mom wanted to go to this place because she could have sushi! You see, that is one of her favorite foods but she wasn't allowed to have it when you were in her tummy. She did everything to make sure you were safe! We had a really nice time and heard allot of stories that I had never heard about when your parents were dating. When we came home your mom and I fell asleep while your dad and pop pop watched baseball.
In the middle of the night, your dad woke me up because your mom had a really bad pain.  We thought it might be a kidney stone but she went to the doctor after much pushing by me and your dad and they think it is a bladder infection.
Pop pop and I left you all today so your mom and dad could begin to figure out how they are going to live without you. We came to the lake to close it up for the season. It was a beautiful ride through the mountains. I was very sad and when we got here I tried to stay busy with chores and then I kayaked in hopes of taking my sadness away but it didn't help.  A girlfriend paddled by and asked if you had come yet and I kept paddling in tears saying that we had lost you. I couldn't wait to get home to pop pop and his comforting hugs. And here I am writing to you with a fire burning, sweats on and drinking a glass of wine on the porch that overlooks the beautiful lake. Pop pop is asking me to go for a ride in the boat before we take it out for the season so I am going to go now but I will be back to tell you lots more
Love Grams
