A Letter To My Daughter On Her Birthday

Hello My Little One - 

A year ago today on Oct 11^th 2017 at 6:24PM a little girl named Hazel Rose was born and made me a Mommy for the first time. While our time together on this earth was far too short, you have taught me a lifetime of lessons. You taught me that nothing in this life is ever a sure thing, and to appreciate the here and now and the small everyday blessings. To live in the moment and be present in my everyday life, and the future will somehow work itself out. You directed my focus to the things I do have in this life and made me love them that much more. You deepened the bond between your Daddy and I with a strength I didn’t even know existed. The kind of bond you form with someone after going to your own personal war together and surviving to tell the tale. You showed me that even under the most tragic type of dichotomy, the relationship between two sisters is unbreakable and steadfast. And most importantly of all, you have emphasized how incredibly lucky your Daddy and I both are to have the army of friends and family that have been by our sides every step of the way through what has been the saddest year of our life. You have brought out the best in people my little one, and that is really all I could have hoped for as your Mommy.

                         

I still sleep with the purple blanket you were wrapped up in when I held you for the first time, ever single night. It is one of the only things that brings me a true sense of peace and comfort. I always think about who crocheted that blanket and wish that I could thank them and let them know the comfort it has brought me through this heartbreaking time in my life. Even your puppy brother takes comfort in it, as every time I get our of bed he miraculously has found a way to snuggle up with it. We decided a perfect way to honor you on your birthday would be through blankets. We reached out to a few friends and family members to help and because you meant so much to so many people, we now have a huge collection of hand kitted baby blankets. Your Daddy and I are going to the hospital where you were born today to donate them so they can be used to wrap up future angel babies and bring comfort to other Mommy’s that will need them most.

You were an amazing little baby Hazel Girl, and I miss you every single day. I love you with every ounce of my soul and being and take solace in the fact that one day I will see you again. And we can dance together amongst those stars. I love you baby girl. Happy Birthday.
